BEAVER CREEK, Minn., June 22, 2022 - Local leaders, stakeholders and landowners joined executives from NextEra Energy Resources, LLC and the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA) to celebrate breaking ground on Minnesota's newest renewable energy project - the Walleye Wind Energy Center.

"This wind energy project will generate low-cost, homegrown energy and provide millions of dollars in additional tax revenue to Rock County over the life of the project," said Kevin Gildea, vice president of development at NextEra Energy Resources, the world's largest generator of wind and solar energy and a world leader in battery storage. "We are pleased to work with MMPA to break ground on Minnesota's newest wind energy center."

The Walleye Wind Energy Center will be located in the town of Beaver Creek and will have the capacity to generate up to 110 megawatts of wind energy. Construction will provide a significant economic boost to Rock County and the state, create up to 185 construction jobs, and stimulate the purchase of regional goods and services from local vendors.

The project will feature 40 wind turbines, converting energy from the wind into electricity. A subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources will build, own and operate the project.

"MMPA is pleased to work with NextEra Energy Resources on the Walleye Wind Energy Center," said David Niles, senior vice president of Avant Energy, Inc., MMPA's management partner. "This project is an important part of MMPA's renewable program and demonstrates MMPA's ongoing commitment to sustainable energy."

Over the next 30 years, the Walleye Wind Energy Center is expected to generate approximately $18 million in additional revenue for Rock County.
