Newcrest Mining : commits K460,000 to support St John Ambulance in three provinces

Newcrest Mining commits K460,000 to support St John Ambulance in three provinces

Newcrest Mining is partnering with St John Ambulance to provide critical training for ambulance officers. Newcrest's K460,000 commitment will help St John Ambulance continue to meet the high demand for its essential first responder services in the National Capital District (NCD), Morobe and East New Britain in Papua New Guinea.

St John Commissioner Matt Cannon said: "The support from Newcrest Mining has enabled much needed expansion of professional emergency ambulance services in Papua New Guinea."

"Newcrest's support to East New Britain, NCD and Central Province will enhance the services St John provides and improve health care access for people in rural and remote locations."

"Newcrest's support has enabled St John to fast-track the commencement of ambulance services in Lae City. This partnership with Newcrest supports St John to recruit and train 10 professional ambulance officers for Morobe. Newcrest's support complements the commitment made by Lae Open Member, Hon. John Rosso MP, the Lae City Authority, Morobe Provincial Health Authority and the PNG-Australia Partnership towards the establishment of St John in Morobe."

Craig Jones, Newcrest's Chief Operating Officer (PNG), reinforced Newcrest's commitment to assisting PNG in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Newcrest is proud to work with St John in this critical area of emergency medical care. This is an important part of our K20 million Community Support Fund through which we are seeking to do our bit to help Papua New Guinea in this time of need."

To date, Newcrest has disbursed approximately K7 million through the Community Support Fund across Papua New Guinea.
