Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ('Mitsui,' Head Office: Tokyo, Japan, President and CEO: Tatsuo Yasunaga) has entered into a contract for supplying maintenance equipment for railway track and overhead wiring with the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd., a corporation run by the Indian Ministry of Railways. The contract price is approximately JPY 18 billion, and is in relation to a dedicated freight line project for building the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor between Delhi and Mumbai, which is India's largest industrial area ('Western DFC Project'). Mitsui has already received various orders in connection with the Western DFC Project, including those for civil and track construction works and signaling and telecommunication facility construction works, and with the conclusion of this contract, the cumulative total orders Mitsui has received are approximately JPY 182 billion.

The purpose of the Western DFC Project is to build the western part (between Delhi and Mumbai) of the dedicated freight corridor that connects the four cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata located at the corners of India's so-called Golden Quadrilateral, and this project also serves as the core of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) scheme, a joint initiative pursued by the Japanese and Indian governments. The Japanese government is providing yen loans for the Western DFC Project under the Special Terms for Economic Partnership (STEP). By reducing the time required for transporting freight between Delhi and Mumbai from over three days currently to one day, this project is expected to significantly improve logistics efficiency and greatly contribute to industrial development in India.

Mitsui has concluded five contracts in relation to the Western DFC Project, and this marks its sixth. Based on this contract, for all the lines of the Western DFC Project constructed by Japanese companies, Mitsui will undertake the design, manufacturing, supplying, testing, commissioning, and staff training of all the maintenance equipment for the track and overhead wiring (22 types, 203 units in total). Such equipment is essential to securing safe, punctual, and high-speed railway operations.

Mitsui has designated 'Market Asia' as one of strategic focuses in its Medium-term Management Plan 2023. Mitsui will continue to engage in the Western DFC Project, which is a symbolic project of cooperation between the Japanese and Indian governments, and will contribute to the further economic development of India by actively participating in infrastructure and mobility-related business in the country.
