MetLife Inc. on Thursday said Oscar Schmidt will retire as executive vice president and president of its Latin America region at the end of the year.

The New York insurance and financial-services giant said Eric Clurfain, currently executive vice president and chairman, president and chief executive of MetLife Japan K.K., will succeed Mr. Schmidt as regional president of Latin America, effective Jan. 1.

MetLife said Dirk Ostijn, currently head of its Europe, Middle East and Africa region, will succeed Mr. Clurfain at the helm of MetLife Japan, while Nuria Garcia, currently senior vice president and deputy head of EMEA, will succeed Mr. Ostijn as head of the region.
