SEPANG - The drive to KL International Airport (IATA: KUL) is now brighter and safer with the ongoing enhancement of the street lights within the airport vicinity that started since October 2020. Malaysia Airports is working closely with the Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR) to improve the passenger experience and ensure continued safety by rectifying 2,000 street light poles and railing light fittings along the main roads around KUL.

According to group chief executive officer (Group CEO) of Malaysia Airports, Dato' Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh, this initiative is part of the organisation's overall implementation of safety efforts. 'As safety remains our top priority, it does not only mean that we enforce safety measures at the terminal but also for the passenger's journey to and from the airport. Thus, with the recent pick-up in air travel, undertaking this initiative with JKR is important and we are already at 95% of project completion. Both the passengers and airport community will benefit from safer road conditions due to brighter streets.'

Apart from the enhancement made to the fittings of the street light poles and lights on the railings, Malaysia Airports and JKR will also be rectifying the wire and guard rails, resurfacing roads and repainting line markings along the roads. These efforts are all timely to safely welcome back passengers to our airport.

Just last month, Malaysia Airports saw the resumption of Cathay Pacific (IATA Code: CX) flying to KUL after a 3-year hiatus while Starlux Airlines (IATA Code: JX) from Taipei began operating its inaugural flight at KUL early this month. The new airlines further enhance KUL's extensive connectivity of over 60 airlines serving more than 120 direct destinations. Domestically, airlines have also started introducing new routes and offering more flights due to the gradually increasing demand in air travel as well as the restoration of passenger confidence. We remain optimistic for air travel to return to normalcy and will continue to be diligent in the implementation of various safety measures from all aspects to further boost passenger confidence.
