On April 9, Magyar Telekom launched their commercial 5G service, which can be used with a 5G capable device and a suitable monthly fee based package, in areas covered.

By the end of August, the service achieved, another milestone, by switching on dozens of new stations, the commercial service, offering gigabit download speed* is already available in 23 settlements - in certain parts of Budapest, Budaors, Zalaegerszeg, Debrecen, Kecskemet, Szeged and Szombathely, plus at certain locations of 16 settlements around Lake Balaton.

The gigabit capable 5G service is available on the Telekom network in certain parts of Budapest, Budaors, Zalaegerszeg, Debrecen, Kecskemet, Szeged and Szombathely, and it is also partially available in 16 settlements of the Balaton region - Siofok, Tihany, Balatonalmadi, Balatonbereny, Balatonfoldvar, Balatonfured, Balatonlelle, Balatonmariafurdo, Balatonszabadi-Sosto, Fonyod, Gyenesdias, Balatonfenyves, Keszthely, Vonyarcvashegy, Zamardi and Heviz.

To use it, you need, besides 5G network coverage, a 5G capable device and a suitable mobile data package. Presently, Telekom offers the 5G service free of charge, on a promotional basis, under specific conditions, with the following services: for 6 months for customers already subscribing to or switching to the Unlimited Net, unlimited Net Max, Fleet Unlimited Net or Business Data Unlimited mobile internet service; and for 3 months from activation upon purchase, for customers buying a 5G capable device, opting for or already subscribing to any of the Net 10 GB, Fleet Net 10 GB, Fleet Net 20 GB, Business Data 15 GB mobile internet packages.

Telekom is constantly extending its portfolio with 5G capable devices, hence it offers the Samsung Galaxy S20 ULTRA, Samsung Galaxy S20 PLUS 5G, Samsung Galaxy Note 10 PLUS 5G, Huawei Mate 20x 5G, Huawei P40 PRO 5G, LG V50 THINQ 5G devices, while Samsung Galaxy Note 20 ULTRA 5G and Samsung Galaxy TAB S7+ 5G can be pre-ordered.

5G technology, providing higher than before speed, lower latency and the connection of a multitude of network devices, offers a number of new opportunities for industrial and commercial use. Telekom plans to further increase 5G area coverage, to ensure that more customers have access to the newest generation of mobile technology.

The maximum download speed offered by the 5G service is 1 Gbps, achieving this depends on having a suitable device that supports the technology; on whether the network supports this transmission rate at the given location, and on radio and traffic conditions.
