Lowe's is donating $1 million dollars for community relief efforts in Kentucky and other states hit hard by tornado activity this month.

The funds will help the retailer's disaster relief partners, which include the American Red Cross, provide support and aid. So far this year Lowe's has committed more than $4 million to support disaster relief, according to a press release.

In addition, store employees are also helping by providing emergency supplies and as members of emergency response teams. Lowe's is sending its mobile convoy of shower and laundry trailers to stores to help associates without power or water, along with fueling stations and meals.

The company is expanding financial assistance available to associates through the Lowe's Employee Relief Fund, doubling the company's match.

"It's heartbreaking to see the devastation this has caused for so many families and communities this close to the holidays," Marvin Ellison, Lowe's chairman and CEO, said in the release. "Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have lost their homes and loved ones, including members of the Lowe's family. We couldn't be more proud of the way our teams have already stepped up to help their neighbors."
