to Reach 100% Power

December 7, 2020

  • UAE Barakah nuclear power plant unit 1 has reached 100% power on December 7, 2020 as part of the start-up testing, and is set to start its commercial operation in 2021.
  • Barakah nuclear power plant unit 1 has been going through the Power Ascension Testing, gradually increasing the power level up to 100%, since it achieved its initial criticality on July 31, 2020.
  • It is currently in the process of testing control and safety systems at 100% power, and throughout this process, the systems are monitored and tested to ensure their compliance with the UAE's regulatory requirements and the highest international standards of safety and quality.
  • Once all the tests are completed at 100% power, UAE Barakah nuclear power plant unit 1 will be shut down for maintenance, known as a check outage. The unit is expected to commence commercial operation in 2021, after conducting the final tests and verifications.
  • KEPCO and Team Korea will be committed to successfully complete the Barakah nuclear power plant project with all the efforts and capabilities. This peaceful nuclear energy development in the UAE will be the foundation for strengthening the relationship between Korea and the UAE and the cooperation in the entire cycle of the nuclear power plant, including construction, operation, design, nuclear fuel and maintenance.
