Keppel has swept 21 awards at this year's Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Awards, organised by the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC) and Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Singapore. This is the highest number of awards won by a single organisation this year. Keppel has consistently won the highest number of accolades at the WSH Awards since 2014.

Of the 21 awards, Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) received 17 awards under the Safety and Health Award Recognition for Projects (SHARP) category for exemplary project safety and health management systems.

Keppel O&M (New Builds Division) also clinched the WSH Performance (Silver) Award for outstanding safety performance and implementation of strong WSH management systems.

In addition, Keppel O&M and Keppel DHCS garnered WSH Innovation Awards, which recognise companies for creating solutions which help to improve safety and enhance operations at the workplace.

Mr R K Jaggi, General Manager, Group Health, Safety and Environment, Keppel Corporation, said, 'We are proud to receive the highest number of awards for the seventh consecutive year. This is testament to Keppelites' consistent safety performance and the strong systems that we have in place. Against the backdrop of COVID-19, we will strive even harder to ensure the health and safety of our workforce and other stakeholders.

'Keppel is committed to delivering solutions for sustainable urbanisation safely and responsibly. Harnessing technology has always been one of Keppel's strengths, and we will proactively leverage technology and innovation as we progress together with our stakeholders for a safer future.'

Keppel O&M was awarded the WSH Innovation Award for developing the PoRtable In-Situ Machine (PRISM) for safer and more efficient machining operations. Machining is the process of removing excess materials using a cutting tool to achieve the required precise measurements. Compared to previous machines, PRISM weighs 90% lighter at 200 kilogrammes, and is 70% smaller at 1.2 metres long, making it more portable and easier to be deployed. A remote control is used to guide the PRISM's movements while its machining work is monitored through a mobile application, thereby reducing risks from manual operations.

The second WSH Innovation Award was conferred to Keppel DHCS for their Safety Transformer, a portable piece of equipment that is foldable and can navigate the cramped condensing units of the air-conditioning systems to aid in maintenance works. Personnel would no longer need to manually lift loads of more than 200 kilogrammes to remove and replace compressors housed within the condensing units, thereby reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injuries and injury by falling objects. Maintenance of the compressors can also be completed in one-third the time, down from one hour to 20 minutes on average.

At the individual level, Mr Sappanimuthu Govindaraju, Hull Superintendent at Keppel O&M, clinched the WSH Award for Supervisors for his strong commitment to the safety of workers under his charge. In his 25 years at Keppel O&M, Mr Govindaraju has led by example and maintained a zero-incident record for projects under his charge.
