Japan Tobacco Inc. (JT) (TSE: 2914) has been recognized for its leadership in corporate sustainability by global environmental non-profit CDP. JT achieved a place on CDP's prestigious 'A List'(*1) for tackling climate change as well as acting to protect water security for the second consecutive year. In addition, in December, 2020, the company has endorsed the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

JT is one of approximately 60 companies in the world and 16 companies in Japan that achieved 'Climate A List' and 'Water A List', out of more than 5,800 companies participating in the CDP environmental disclosure program in 2020. This marks JT's third recognition for climate change following 2016 and 2019 and its second recognition for water security following 2019.

'We are also pleased to announce that we officially endorsed the TCFD recommendations. The JT Group has been conducting multiple scenario analyses on climate change. Based on the climate-related risks and opportunities identified, we will further strengthen the resilience of our business strategy and optimize the way we disclose the information.'

To ensure that a healthy and sustainable environment is passed on to future generations, the JT Group is committed to achieving a balance between corporate activities and environment preservation by addressing environmental challenges in wider society as well as in the Group's value chain.

The company launched the 'JT Group Environment Plan 2030 ' in 2019, reflecting changes in its business surroundings, with 'Energy and Emissions', 'Natural Resources' and 'Waste' as its key focus areas. Specifically, the Group is working to enhance measures including the introduction of renewable energy in relation to climate change and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from its business activities and from the raw materials and services it purchases. As for water security, the Group continues to enhance measures including the reduction of water withdrawal in its business and water risk management from its supply chain.
