South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group has signed a deal with the Chinese government to build its first overseas hydrogen-fuel-cell plant in China's southern Guangdong province.

The auto group said Friday that it plans to produce 6,500 fuel-cell systems annually from the plant that will be built in the city of Guangzhou by the second half of 2022.

The group, which includes Hyundai Motor Co., Kia Motors Corp. and other affiliates, said it plans to supply up to 700,000 fuel-cell systems a year globally from 2030.
