October 23, 2020 - Hikvision has launched a partnership program for social good, called 'STAR' which stands for 'Sustainability through Technology, Actions for Responsibility.' At the launch ceremony, Hikvision signed a strategic cooperation agreement with WWF China, its first strategic partner in the STAR Program. This program aims to empower non-profit organizations through cutting edge technology and then work alongside those organizations to explore innovative ways to benefit communities and protect the environment.

WWF is one of the world's largest and most renowned independent environmental NGOs, with a leading position in knowledge, technology, expert resources, and professional teams for ecological sustainability and biodiversity conservation. In the past few years, Hikvision and WWF China have jointly carried out a number of social good projects on wildlife conservation, bringing hope to the Yangtze finless porpoise, giant panda, and Amur tiger populations.

Now, artificial intelligence, big data, and other advanced technologies are creating new and innovative social responsibility opportunities. Under the STAR Program, algorithms and technologies based on Hikvision AI Open Platform will be made available to NGOs free of charge. This way, NGOs can rapidly improve their capabilities in intelligent perception and recognition, as well as reduce costs in their projects.

'Hikvision is a trustworthy partner with robust technical capabilities, and the launch of the STAR Program will help more people and organizations who are working for social good. We are glad to participate in the STAR program and partner with Hikvision to explore a new path to the harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature,' said Dr. Ren Wenwei, Director of WWF Shanghai Office.

'The technological advancements that we are pursuing should be beneficial for the society,' said Huang Fanghong, Senior Vice President of Hikvision, 'In the future, Hikvision will continue to share its technical capabilities such as multi-dimensional perception, big data, and artificial intelligence with more organizations who will take full advantage of those technologies in their projects. Technology can expand and promote all kinds of efforts for social good. Let's work together to make the world a better place!'

From 2020 to 2021, the STAR Program will focus primarily on the 'Protect Our Planet' Initiative (biodiversity and environmental protection) and the 'Golden Harvest' Initiative (intelligent agriculture).
