EMERYVILLE, Calif. (AP) _ Dynavax Technologies Corp. (DVAX) on Thursday reported third-quarter net income of $4.4 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Emeryville, California-based company said it had profit of 15 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 20 cents per share.

The biopharmaceutical company posted revenue of $13.4 million in the period.

In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, the company's shares hit $4.13. A year ago, they were trading at $5.36.
