Recently, the Huanghua Port successfully realized the intelligent shiploading of the entire port, marking the port has entered into a new era of whole-process intelligent operation, and manual work is no longer seen.

For a long time, the development of intelligent operation in China's bulk cargo ports was slow due to the nature of bulk types and external environment. Coal ports, in particular, underwent few improvements in its loading and unloading techniques, operation models and equipment for environmental protection, because operations in coal ports like dumping, stacking, reclaiming and loading are generally simple and repetitive, while the on-site environment is quite harsh. However, coal ports boast advantages to advance intelligent development, for port operation is highly concentrated in a rather small working premises, as well as the operation is very standardized. On the other hand, coal ports need such intelligent systems the most, as the ports are closely interacted with mines, railways and shipping businesses.

To boost the development of intelligent port, the Huanghua Port worked to enhance independent innovation to transform the operation models and increase efficiency. Taking advantages of the rapidly developing information technologies such as 5G network and big data, the company overcame a series of obstacles and spent five years to build the intelligent coal yard and achieve remote control of ship-loaders. The all-weather automatic operations including dumping, stacking, reclaiming and loading coal have been fully achieved in the Huanghua Port, making it China's first coal port capable of whole-process centralized control of port operation.

Furthermore, the company proactively communicated with relevant shipping companies to collect information of ships and finally established the database model of ships arriving at the Huanghua Port. It finished the successful tests of intelligent shiploading after studying key issues such as the stowing paths and the layouts of coal stowage and solving problems caused by changes in water level, the speed of wind and waves.

In addition, the company focused on troubleshooting while collecting and tracking real data during operation, which facilitated the changes from manual work to remote centralized control and finally to whole-process intelligent operation in the whole port. In the past, it needed two workers to operate a machine. Now, it requires only one person to control the whole process line. The operation efficiency has increased by nearly 10 percent.
