Charles Taylor Adjusting activate CAT resources in response to Typhoon Hagibis

14 October 2019

Typhoon Hagibis struck Japan on Saturday 12 October 2019, making landfall at approximately 19.00hrs local time. The storm is believed to be one of the most powerful to hit Japan.

Tokyo was also hit with an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale shortly before the arrival of Typhoon Hagibis on Saturday night.

Full details of damage are still emerging, and it will take a few days for the picture to become clear. Monday 14 October 2019 is a public holiday in Japan. However early reports indicate that tragically many lives have been lost and that substantial damage has occurred. Rivers have reportedly breached their banks in at least 14 places and mudslides have also added to the damage caused by torrential rainfall and winds with speeds of up to 225km/hour.
