MONTREAL (AP) _ Canadian National Railway Co. (CNI) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter profit of $783.5 million.

On a per-share basis, the Montreal-based company said it had net income of $1.10.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.08 per share.

The railroad posted revenue of $2.81 billion in the period, meeting Street forecasts.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.66 billion, or $3.73 per share. Revenue was reported as $10.32 billion.

CN shares have fallen slightly more than 2% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $107.19, a climb of 16% in the last 12 months.
