MONTREAL (AP) _ Canadian National Railway Co. (CNI) on Tuesday reported third-quarter earnings of $739.3 million.

The Montreal-based company said it had net income of $1.04 per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.09 per share.

The railroad posted revenue of $2.56 billion in the period, also missing Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.66 billion.

CN shares have climbed 24% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $112.04, an increase of 26% in the last 12 months.
