British American Tobacco has appointed Crispin Achola as the firm's new Managing Director effective January 1 2021.

Achola's appointment follows the resignation of Beverley Spencer which will take effect 31st December 2020.

BAT's company secretary Kathryne Maundu through a statement said Spencer will continue being in the company in an advisory capacity for a period of time to ensure a smooth transition.

"During the last 4 years Beverley has transformed the business from a portfolio, value and people perspective," Maundu said.

"She leaves behind a legacy of energizing and inclusive leadership and has collaborated extensively with external stakeholders putting BAT Kenya on the manufacturing and top employer map," she added.

The firm's incoming MD, Achola previously worked for BAT from 1999 to 2017 where he held various senior roles within BAT Kenya and the group.

This includes being a Managing Director in Mozambique, Cluster General Manager Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, and Managing Director Sudan.

"The wealth of experience and commercial acumen that Achola has gained from working across numerous jurisdictions in Africa will be of immense value to BAT Kenya," reads the statement.
