Here's what we are watching as markets kick into gear Tuesday.

-- Stocks are poised for muted gains, with investors taking the absence of bad news as good news once again. Nasdaq futures rose almost 1%, setting up the tech-heavy index to recoup more of its losses from last week. The index is 8% off the all-time-high it hit less than two weeks ago. -- What's coming up. U.S. industrial production data, due out at 9:15 a.m. ET, is expected to show an increase for August, led by a rise in manufacturing output. Data from China showed its economic recovery accelerated in August, with retail sales showing their first month of growth this year.

Market Movers to Watch

-- Tesla climbed almost 4% in premarket trading, just a day after it jumped over 12%. Still, the stock is $80 shy of its Sept. 1 record price of $502.49 a share. Netflix is also among the market darlings signaling another day of gains. -- Apple is expected to show off its latest smartwatch and iPad Tuesday at its first virtual-only product reveal at 1 p.m. New York time. In yet another break from tradition, the company won't reveal its latest flagship iPhone at the much-hyped annual event -- buyers will instead have to wait until October. The stock is up over 1% premarket.

-- NextEra Energy advanced over 5% ahead of the opening bell after the energy company's board approved a 4-for-1 stock split.

-- Shares of ride-sharing giant Uber Technologies have climbed nearly 13% over the past five trading days, and are up 26% year-to-date. It ticked up 0.4% in offhours trading.

-- American health insurer Humana dropped over 6% before the New York opening bell.
