Italian Government Eyes Stake Raise In Anima Amid Foreign Interest Concerns

10/05/2022 | 12:46am
(MT Newswires) -- Italy is looking to increase its stake in Anima (ANIM.MI) through state-owned post office Poste Italiane (PST.MI) amid talks of a potential foreign offer for the asset manager, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Anima, meanwhile, secured the Italian government's support for its strategy to remain independent and develop its own business, the report added. Italy urging Anima to participate in Monte dei Paschi di Siena's (BMPS.MI) 2.5 billion-euro ($2.49 billion) capital raise is reportedly part of the state's broader efforts to preserve the former's independence.

Poste Italiane is the second-biggest shareholder in Anima, next to Banco BPM (BAMI.MI).

Anima gained nearly 5% on Tuesday's close, while Poste Italiane rose almost 3%.
