Air Liquide SA said Thursday that it is launching its first biomethane production facilities in Italy.

The French industrial-gases company is building two biomethane units alongside its Italian partner Dentro Il Sole in Truccazzano near Milan and in Fontanella near Bergamo. The units are scheduled to begin operation in the second quarter next year.

The facilities will produce liquefied biomethane from agricultural and livestock waste from nearby farms, with a total production capacity of 3,200 metric tons a year, equivalent to around 50 gigawatt-hours annually, Air Liquide said.
