China’s E-Commerce Logistics Activity Eases in August

09/12/2022 | 11:07pm
(MT Newswires) -- Activity within China’s e-commerce logistics sector declined in August due to the resurgence in COVID-19 cases in some parts of the country, according to the results of a survey by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) released over a week ago.

The index tracking the sector fell 2.2 points to 104.2 in August.

Both the indices for supply and demand dropped last month, with demand declining sharper. The total business volume index of e-commerce logistics slumped 5.9 points, steeper than the 3.9-point decline in July to hit a new low this year.

Supply was also under pressure last month as COVID-19 restrictions led to a decline in the supply efficiency of e-commerce logistics. Other indicators such as logistics timeliness, inventory turnover, and contract performance rate, on the other hand, expanded last month.

The CFLP, which carried out the survey with JD.com (HKG:9618), expects the resumption of school classes in September to provide favorable factors for the e-commerce logistics market.

China’s biggest e-commerce players include Alibaba Group (HKG:9988), JD.com, Suning.com (SHE:002024) and Meituan (HKG:3690), while the country’s major logistic providers include STO Express (SHE:002468), SF Holding (SHE:002352), Yunda Express (SHE:002120), YTO Express (SHA:600233) and ZTO Express (HKG:2057).
