MOSCOW, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Russia ran a current account surplus of $166.6 billion in the first seven months of 2022, up from $50.2 billion in the same period last year, central bank data showed on Tuesday.

Russia is on track to post a record high current account surplus this year after its imports of goods and services fell due to Western sanctions while commodity export revenues got a boost from globally high prices.

But Russia's current account surplus, the key driver of the rouble's recent rebound, will shrink visibly in the second half of 2022, while the economic contraction will gain pace, the central bank said in early August. (Reporting by Reuters;Editing by Alison Williams)
