Lome, 9 June 2021. The Board of Directors of the West African Development Bank (BOAD), under the chairmanship of Mr. Serge Ekue, has announced the appointment of Mr. Braima Luis Soares Cassama as second Vice-President of the institution for a renewable term of five (5) years.

Previously, Mr. Soares Cassama served as Economic Advisor to the President of the Republic of Guinea Bissau and held several positions in Guinea Bissau in relation to finance and economy, including the position of Deputy Minister for Treasury, in charge of Fiscal Affairs and Public Accounts. Moreover, he served as Assistant Director of Credit Institutions and Economic Finance, and Assistant Director for Banking Activities and Alternative Financing at the BCEAO headquarters in Dakar (Senegal).

Mr. Soares Cassama holds a Post-graduate diploma (Master 2) in Monetary and Financial Economics from the Graduate Institute of Economics and Management (ISEG) in Portugal, a Master's degree (Master 1) in Economics from the University of Coimbra (Portugal), and a Diploma from the Centre Ouest-africain de Formation et d'Etudes Bancaires (COFEB) in Dakar.

The appointment of the second Vice-President of BOAD takes place at a time when the institution is working to implement its 3rd strategic plan for 2021-2025 (Plan DJOLIBA) and is committed to an extensive modernization programme with a view to aligning itself with international standards and thereby improving the quality of its support to member countries. To date, the Bank's total commitments since commencement of its operations in 1976 amount to XOF6,430.2 billion.
