Sterling Could Fall Further After Fed's Powell Speech

0839 GMT - Sterling could extend its losses if Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signals further aggressive interest-rate rises in a speech later Friday at the Jackson Hole symposium, ING says. "A firm reiteration that additional forceful tightening to curb price pressures could remain at the core of Powell's message today," ING analyst Francesco Pesole says in a note. That should strengthen the dollar, sending GBP/USD lower, he says. Sterling's sensitivity to risk means EUR/GBP could also rise if Powell's speech hits market sentiment, he says. GBP/USD falls 0.4% to 1.1784 and EUR/GBP rises 0.4% to 0.8468. Powell's speech is expected at 1400 GMT. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
