In today's discussions, the main focus was on the increase in energy prices, which presents a challenge for the post-pandemic recovery and is severely affecting citizens and businesses. The discussions also touched on short-term relief for those most affected as well as on medium- and long-term measures. The European Council also discussed the current COVID-19 situation. The pandemic is not over yet and figures are on the rise in several EU Member States. Vaccination has led to significant progress in the fight against COVID-19, but more still needs to be done, especially regarding the distrust of vaccination and misinformation.

At the working dinner, a strategic discussion on trade took place. When it comes to the EU's global influence, trade remains the most effective instrument in its toolbox. The EU leaders discussed how best to use this instrument, both in terms of the objectives pursued and in terms of the process of involving EU Member States, taking into account the experience gained in recent years.
