Health-care companies fell slightly as investors reconsidered the outlook for spending on pharmaceuticals and doctors' visits.

"Health-care services inflation received attention early this year after January and February posted strong gains, owing in part to a boost to Medicare physician payments," but the expiration of this payment scheme could weigh on health-care spending tallies in the coming months, said strategists at brokerage Bank of America Global Research, in a note to clients.
