European ADRs Rise Sharply in Friday Trading

(MT Newswires) -- American depositary receipts of European stocks were trading 2.16% higher at 999.02 on the S&P/BNY Mellon Europe Select ADR Index on Friday.

In continental Europe, the gainers were led by biotech firm Zealand Pharma (ZEAL) and biopharmaceutical company MorphoSys (MOR), which climbed 9.9% and 5.5% respectively. They were followed by financial services company Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) and biopharmaceutical company Grifols (GRFS), which rose 5.3% and 4.9%.

The decliners in continental Europe were led by semiconductor company Sequans Communications (SQNS) and furniture maker Natuzzi (NTZ), which dropped 1% each. They were followed by medical device maker EDAP TMS (EDAP) and biotech firm Forward Pharma (FWP), which were off 0.7% and 0.3% respectively.

In the UK and Ireland, the gainers were led by biopharmaceutical company Mereo BioPharma Group (MREO) and mining company BHP Group (BHP), which rose 6% and 5.3% respectively. They were followed by biopharmaceutical company Verona Pharma (VRNA) and communications company WPP (WPP), which were up 5% and 4% respectively.

The decliners in the UK and Ireland were led by biopharmaceutical companies Adaptimmune Therapeutics (ADAP) and Bicycle Therapeutics plc (BCYC), which fell 3.9% and 0.7% respectively, followed by pharmaceutical company Avadel Pharmaceuticals (AVDL), which was off 0.2%.
