TOKYO, Nov 26 (Reuters) - The balance of total assets held by the Bank of Japan stood at 724.6 trillion yen ($6.3 trillion) as of the September end of the fiscal 2021 first-half, up 4.9% from the same period of the previous year, the central bank said on Friday.

The central bank also said a total of 228 financial institutions were eligible for a scheme that pays 0.1% to deposits they hold at the BOJ as part of efforts to revitalise regional banks by promoting mergers and cost cuts.
