BCIE Banco Centroamericano de Integración : CABEI representatives visit productive and social infrastructure projects financed in Honduras

Tegucigalpa, July 30, 2021. - The Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Dante Mossi, together with the directors for Spain and Honduras at the Bank, Jorge Mariné and Catherine Chang, respectively, visited three projects financed by CABEI in Honduras and one project financed by the Honduras-Spain Fund administered by CABEI.

The visit to the CABEI-financed projects included the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán, where it was possible to observe the progress in the process of issuing the National Identification Document (DNI) at the national level by the National Registry of Persons (RNP). A tour of the Comayagua Valley to see the 4.9 kilometers of the CA-5 Highway Expansion and Improvement Project, as well as the 50 kilometers that make up segments IA and IB of the Villa de San Antonio-Goascorán Logistics Corridor Project, works that contribute to the integration of the Central American region.

President Mossi affirmed, President Mossi affirmed, 'Spain's participation as an extra-regional partner of CABEI has been fundamental for the consolidation of relations with the countries of the Central American region. The Spain-Honduras Fund has undoubtedly contributed to the economic and social development of our country, improving the competitiveness of the main productive sectors, as well as Hondurans' quality of life.

The mission was comprised of CABEI's Public Sector Manager, CABEI's Chief Officer in Honduras and other officials.

The working tour also included a visit to the Palmerola International Airport, a project with a partial investment of US$53.2 million from the Honduras-Spain Fund, which is administered by CABEI. To date, the project has generated employment for 271 people and is expected to benefit 650,000 passengers in its first year of operation.

Spain became a CABEI extraregional partner in 2005. In 2006, Honduras and Spain designated CABEI as the administrator of the Honduras-Spain Fund, which finances binationally agreed-upon projects that promote development and poverty reduction in Honduras. In Phase I, between 2005 and 2018, L. 1,230 million were invested, benefiting 1.3 million people, and in Phase II, currently underway, US$62.9 million and €15.8 million will be allocated to directly benefit more than 790,000 Hondurans.
