ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih appoints environmental ombudsmanKryvyi Rih, September 23, 2021.Olha Semkiv took over the newly created position of environmental ombudsman at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih. In new position, Olha will be responsible for the implementation of the company's updated environmental strategy, interaction with the eco-community, the decarbonization plan for ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and the entire range of tasks related to adapting the company to European requirements to reduce industrial load on environment.

This takes steel production to an entirely new level, and at the same time as our dialogue with the public becomes more substantive. Environmental issues are a hot button in our region, and as the green officer, Olha is ready for constructive interaction with all stakeholders, which are government bodies, experts, the local community. I am sure that Olha's strategic thinking as well as her rich professional experience that combines work within big business and for the research projects at the international level, will contribute to our company's success on our path to decarbonization", - Mauro Longobardo, CEO of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih said.

Olha Semkiv has been working in the field of environmental protection for more than 15 years, in particular, she worked as the acting head of the ecology department of DTEK and participated in projects aimed at supporting reforms in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine, was an expert on projects of the European Union and the UN Development Program. Olha supported projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions under the Kyoto Protocol. She participated in consulting projects in the field of climate change, as well as in carbon market research.

In 2006, she graduated from the National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy with a master's degree in Environment and Environmental Protection.

The new appointment confirms ArcelorMittal's overall commitment to sustainable development and carbon footprint reduction. The Environmental Ombudsman will report to Zhanbek Yesmakhanov, Director of the Department for Labor Protection, Industrial Safety and Environment of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih. Liana Maksimenko, previously Director of the Environmental Protection Department, retired in September this year after 18 years of work at the company and the successful implementation of many environmental projects that created the basis of the current eco-modernization of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih.
