International stocks trading in New York closed lower on Tuesday.
The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts slipped 0.04% to 168.93. The European index fell 0.1% to 143.78. The Asian index was flat at 234.82 and the emerging-markets index fell 0.1% to 407.56. Only the Latin American index rose 0.6% to 225.44.
GlaxoSmithKline PLC's ADRs fell 1.8% after the U.K. pharmaceutical giant said Tuesday that ViiV Healthcare, the specialist HIV company in which it holds a majority stake, has signed a licensing agreement that gives it exclusive access to Halozyme Therapeutics Inc.'s Enhanze drug-delivery technology. The collaboration will allow ViiV to develop long-acting medicines for HIV, the company said.
ADRs of Petroleo Brasileiro SA were up 1.1% after the company said its pension plan, Petros, will again sell off some of its private-equity investments so it can begin committing new capital to the asset class. Formally called Fundação Petrobras de Seguridade Social, Petros is Brazil's second-largest pension fund and supports roughly 142,000 workers and retirees of the state-owned energy company.
Nomura Holdings Inc.'s ADRs slipped 0.4% after the company said it would book a pretax income of 36 billion yen ($326.3 million) in its first quarter ending June 30 from a sale of shares in its affiliate, Nomura Research Institute Ltd.
