International stocks trading in New York closed lower Thursday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts fell 0.9% to 131.10. The European index decreased 0.8% to 122.82, the Asian index declined 0.9% to 158.16, the Latin American index dropped 1.7% to 181.92, and the emerging markets index decreased 1.3% to 273.75.

Adidas AG and Shell PLC were among the companies with ADRs that traded actively.

ADRs of Adidas fell 4.3% after Kanye West said he is terminating his partnership with Gap Inc., which follows Mr. West's complaints recently on social media about his deals with both Gap and Adidas. Mr. West has criticized Adidas for months, ranging from accusations of stealing his designs from his Yeezy brand to not fulfilling their contract obligations. Adidas and Mr. West have a 10-year deal.

ADRs of Shell fell 2.1% after it appointed Wael Sawan as its next chief executive, replacing longtime CEO Ben van Beurden. The energy group also signed a memorandum of understanding with Siemens AG to advance low-carbon energy solutions.

ADRs of Ryanair Holdings PLC rose 1.4% after the Irish low-cost carrier said resolutions to reelect directors Michael Cawley and Howard Millar passed at its annual general meeting.
