International stocks trading in New York closed higher on Monday. The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts rose 0.4% to 173.85. The European index improved 0.5% to 148.12. The Asian index rose 0.4% to 241.63. The Latin American index increased 0.4% to 227.94. And the emerging-markets index was up 0.8% at 421.20.

Koninklijke Philips NV's ADRs tumbled 4% Monday after the Dutch medical-technology company said it has recalled millions of sleep apnea and ventilator machines over concerns that a type of foam used in the devices could degrade and release harmful, possibly cancer-causing, particles.

ADRs of GlaxoSmithKline PLC rose 0.9% Monday after the British pharmaceutical giant and U.S. biotech company iTeos Therapeutics Inc. said that they have reached an agreement to develop and commercialize an immuno-oncology drug in a deal worth up to $2.08 billion.

Unilever PLC's ADRs notched 0.8% higher on Monday after the company said that it has signed a deal to buy Paula's Choice Skincare from TA Associates.
