A Statement of the Presidency on the

Republic of Turkey's Position

November 21 - 22, 2020

The following statement is issued at the request of the Republic of Turkey:

"Turkey expresses her keen determination to reach a fair status under the UNFCCC while attaching utmost importance to combating climate change and actively contributing to global climate action. Therefore, Turkey ratified the Kyoto Protocol and signed the Paris Agreement. Due to unfair status of Turkey in the current climate architecture, Turkey has not ratified the Paris Agreement yet. Turkey's understanding with regard to global climate action is to contribute to international efforts on the basis of equity, common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities, as clearly recognized in the climate change regime. As a developing country, with a negligible historical responsibility for greenhouse gas emissions (less than 1%), Turkey looks forward to finding a fair, reasonable and wholly satisfactory solution to this issue at the earliest possible time, preferably during COP26, with the kind understanding and contribution of all Parties. A mutually acceptable solution to this issue will enable Turkey to enhance her efforts for tackling climate change."
