Goldman Sachs Group Inc. on Tuesday said Stephen Scherr, its chief financial officer, plans to retire at the end of January after nearly 30 years with the Wall Street firm.

Goldman said Denis Coleman III, currently co-head of its global financing group, becomes deputy chief financial officer and will succeed Mr. Scherr as finance chief on Jan. 1.

Goldman said Mr. Scherr, who joined the firm in 1993 as an associate in its financial institutions group and has been chief financial officer since late 2018, will become a senior director upon his retirement at the end of January.

Mr. Coleman, who joined Goldman in 1996 as an analyst in the bank loan group, has served as co-head of the global financing group in the firm's investment-banking division since 2018.
