BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Vulcan Materials Co. (VMC) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $141.1 million.

On a per-share basis, the Birmingham, Alabama-based company said it had profit of $1.06. Earnings, adjusted to account for discontinued operations and non-recurring costs, came to $1.08 per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.12 per share.

The construction materials company posted revenue of $1.19 billion in the period, which met Street forecasts.

For the year, the company reported profit of $617.7 million, or $4.63 per share. Revenue was reported as $4.93 billion.

Vulcan expects full-year earnings to be $5.20 to $5.80 per share.

Vulcan shares have climbed 2% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed almost 5%. The stock has climbed 30% in the last 12 months.
