* Leading the index were First Quantum Minerals Ltd, up 14.8 percent, Centerra Gold Inc , up 6.9 percent, and Aurora Cannabis Inc, higher by 5 percent.

* Lagging shares were NFI Group Inc, down 14.3 percent, Iamgold Corp, down 10.5 percent, and Bombardier Inc, lower by 4.3 percent.

* On the TSX 139 issues rose and 93 fell as a 1.5-to-1 ratio favored advancers. There were 4 new highs and 1 new lows, with total volume of 248.4 million shares.

* The most heavily traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc, Bombardier Inc  and Encana Corp.

* The TSX's energy group <.SPTTEN> fell 0.99 points, or 0.65 percent, while the financials sector <.SPTTFS> climbed 2.96 points, or 1.05 percent.

* West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 0.56 percent, or $0.29, to $52.4 a barrel. Brent crude  rose 1.24 percent, or $0.75, to $61.39 [O/R]

* The TSX is up 5.5 percent for the year.
