SAIC Motor Corp.'s monthly sales growth continued in July, but sales for the first seven months of the year were still down from the same period last year.

July sales rose 4% from a year earlier to 457,558 units, while seven-month sales fell 26% to 2.5 million units, the Chinese car maker said Thursday.

SAIC's monthly sales resumed growing in June for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the Chinese auto market early this year.

July sales at the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture declined to 134,000 units from 145,100 units a year earlier.

SAIC's joint venture with General Motors Co., which produces Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet cars, sold 112,767 units last month, slightly up from 111,567 units a year earlier.
