Israeli police urge corruption charges against Netanyahu

Jerusalem (EFE).- Israeli police recommended that prosecutors file charges against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for bribery and breach of public trust based on the findings of two year-long investigations.

Regarding the case known as File 1000, police said they found sufficient evidence that Netanyahu traded official favors for roughly $300,000 worth of gifts from Hollywood mogul Arnon Milchan and Australian billionaire James Packer.

Police said they that they have enough evidence to accuse both Milchan and Mozes of bribing a public official.

Following the police statement, Netanyahu appeared on television to call the potential criminal charges part of a project "to topple me from government."


Trump warns that last chance to pass DACA alternative looms

Washington (EFE).- US President Donald Trump warned lawmakers that they face the last chance between now and March 5 to resolve the future of the DACA program, which protects the 690,000 undocumented youths known as Dreamers from deportation.

"Negotiations on DACA have begun," Trump tweeted a day after the US Senate voted in favor of opening the debate about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, set to expire March 5.

"Wouldn't it be great if we could finally, after so many years, solve the DACA puzzle. This will be our last chance, there will never be another opportunity! March 5th," the president added.


Tottenham come back to draw 2-2 with Juve

Turin, Italy (EFE).- Tottenham Hotspur overcame falling behind 2-0 in the first 10 minutes to draw 2-2 here with Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.

Gonzalo Higuain put Juventus up 1-0 just two minutes after the start, surprising Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris with a massive volley. Barely seven minutes later, Ben Davies brought down Juve's Federico Bernardeschi in the box and Higuain converted from the spot to give the home side a seemingly insurmountable 2-0 advantage.

But Juve eased up as the minutes passed, allowing Spurs back into the match. Harry Kane scored in the 35th minute to cut the deficit and Christian Eriksen got the equalizer in the 72nd on a direct free kick.


Clandestine grave containing 8 bodies found in western Mexico

Mexico City (EFE).- A clandestine grave containing eight bodies "in a very advanced state of decomposition" was found in El Testarazo, a town in the western Mexican state of Nayarit, the president of the Familias Unidas organization, Santiago Perez, told EFE.

The mass grave was found last Friday in the Loma de los Coyotes field after a peasant "noticed a foul odor while harvesting cane" and notified police, who used a search dog to locate the bodies, Perez said.

Nine clandestine graves have now been found in Nayarit, with the victims a product "of the organized crime war, the disputes, the fight for money," Perez said.


Blaze devastates one of Haiti's largest markets

Port-au-Prince (EFE).- This capital's historic Marche En Fer, one of Haiti's largest markets, has been devastated by a fire, authorities said.

A Haitian culture landmark popular with tourists, the Marche En Fer (Iron Market) hosts hundreds of vendors selling arts and crafts items, food and other wares.

Vendors said that they lost nearly all of their inventory in the blaze, which began Monday night.

Preliminary reports indicate the fire "was intentional, but it's too soon to decide," Port-au-Prince Mayor Youri Chery told reporters.


Froome says he's ready to compete again, cooperating with UCI investigation

Malaga, Spain (EFE).- British Team Sky rider Chris Froome, a four-time Tour de France champion, said he was looking forward to competing in this week's Vuelta a Andalucia-Ruta del Sol and hoped the International Cycling Union (UCI) investigation of his positive test result at the Vuelta a España was completed soon.

"About to head to Ruta del Sol. I want to thank everyone for their support & patience over this difficult period. I am doing my utmost to ensure that things are resolved as speedily as possible. Can't wait to get this season started!!" Froome said in a Twitter post.

The Vuelta a Andalucia-Ruta del Sol, which starts on Wednesday, will be the 32-year-old Froome's first race of the season.
