Jubilee Insurance has come out to refute claims that it owes Nairobi Hospital Sh357 million which has accumulated since 2018.

This comes days after Nairobi Hospital announced that it had dropped the insurer from its list of cover providers over claims it says dates back to 2018.

The insurance in a statement instead said that the Hospital failed to prove on some hospital bills amounting to Sh80 million.

"The dispute arising from the failure of the hospital to provide justification for some bills adding up to about Sh80 million compared to an approximate business of Sh1 billion per year," reads the statement.

"We further wish to state that transparency in billing is vital to ensure that all client's funds entrusted to us are aptly and prudently utilized," the insurance service provider stated.

In a letter to the firm's Chief Executive Officer Julius Kipngetich, the hospital said that Jubilee owed it Sh357 million that has accumulated for a period of 3 years.

Nairobi Hospital Chief Executive Officer Allan Pamba further said that the bills originated from 2018 and 2019 packages including Sh33 million and Sh47.8 million.

Pamba added that since the beginning of 2020, Jubilee owes the Hospital Sh96 million.

The insurer reported a 2.6 percent drop in net profit to Sh4 billion in the year to December 2019.

The profit dropped from Sh4.12 billion on higher claim settlements and a lower return from associates.
