Shares of retailers and other consumer companies rose after a strong reading of consumer confidence.
The Conference Board, a private research group, said its index of consumer confidence edged up to 98.1 in June, from a revised 85.9 in May, hitting a three-month high, but still well short of pre pandemic levels.
